Liberal
Spokeswoman on Foreign Affairs
The
Honorable Cecilia Malmstrom,
We
are most grateful to you for your kind message to our 7th Congress held
between February 28 and March 1, 2004, in Los Angeles, United States.
Your message was read to a thundering applause of the delegates and
guests.
Iran National
Front is struggling to establish democracy, civil liberties, human rights,
and the rule of law in Iran. We
hope that the transition from the theocratic dictatorship to a democratic
and secular republic will be peaceful and non-violent.
There is a serious crisis of legitimacy and governance in Iran, and
the only non-violent way to resolve the crisis is a UN supervised referendum
whereby the Iranian people can freely choose the form of government they
want. The support of
pro-democracy forces around the world for the referendum in Iran is
appreciated by the Iranian pro-democracy forces.
There are many
in EU who under the guise of “constructive dialogue” appear to whitewash
the human rights crisis in the Islamic Republic in order to benefit from
financial dealings with the fundamentalist regime.
We wholeheartedly agree with your statement: “without any progress
in the area of human rights, a fruitful dialogue can not exist.”
It is our hope that EU would not sacrifice the human rights of the
Iranian people for the sake of short-term financial gain.
In the long term, the appeasement of the fundamentalist regime is
harmful to all concerned.
You
have been a true friend to us, and we greatly appreciate your consistent
support for human rights and democracy in Iran.
Highest
regards,
Masoud
Kazemzadeh, Ph.D.
